i want to order fairly soon. I've waited 4 months and I planned to build it around now. Even though it's announced its not going to be released for a while. Right?

1. The MSI Krait is a pretty low performing Gaming MoBo.... suggest the MSI Gaming 5 ($125).

2. 2400 CAS 10 low profile is just $10 more

2133 CAS 9 is just $6 more

3. The 970s are $320 every other week.... they significantly (6% stock / 12% wen both OC'd) outperform the 290x, you get $120 worth of games (Witcher 3 and Batman) with it, your PSU can be 100 watts smaller (200 watts is SLI / CF upgrade in your future) and your cooling needs are lower, case quieter. If going AMD, I'd wait till I saw what the 390x can do.... if nothing else it will quash the price of the 290x.

4. The 500R is a great case.... looks awesome with the Phantekls white cooler. Tho I'd also take a peek at the Enthoo Pro befre ya pull the trigger. The included fan hub more than makes up for the price difference.

Sorry for the late reply.
1. What makes the Krait edition a low performing board? I'm also not going to play at 1440p OR with 8xAA. (I have no idea what Anti-Assailing does)
2. Anything above 1866 exceeds Intels 1.5V limit
3. I'm not going to play either of those games and I've seen some games being performed better by the 290x. (TBH I don't know what I'll play yet. I have a shitty computer). 390x is expected to be like a Titan no? I don't want to wait till late June. I'd get a 380 most likely which is a rebranded 290x (if I read correctly)
4. I looked at the enthoo pro. Not a big fan of its aesthetics and the CPU cooler is way too much for what I'll be OCing the CPU.
Can you provide links if you make claims?

1. Did you look at the graph ? Or did ya think I made it myself ? :)

MSI Krait = 43.1 + 45.3 + 62 = 150.4 fps
MSI Gaming 5 = 94.8 + 49.8 + 67.2 = 211.8

"Doing the math " that makes the MSI Gaming 5 40.8% faster than the Krait. The 980 is only 10% faster than the 970.

Here's more from the link below ..... Krait is at the bottom of the barrel in every gaming / 3D test

2. Lemme guess.... "you read that in the internet". Be aware that when DDR3 came out everything 1600 and above was 1.65 volt. The 1.5 volt limitation is a JEDEC spec thing. If you buy a set of 1600 RAM, that 1600 is the XMP or overclocking profile. XMP, an Intel trademark BTW, is not as per JEDEC spec. You bought a "k" series processor and you bought a aftermarket cooler which tells me you are perfectly OK with overclocking.

So let's see what Intel has to say on the matter.

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/gaming/extreme-memory-profile-xmp.html

Intel® Extreme Memory Profile (Intel® XMP) allows you to overclock compatible DDR3/DDR4 memory to perform beyond standard specifications. It’s designed to enhance the gaming features built into Intel® technology–based PCs. If you like to overclock and squeeze as much performance from your PC as possible, then memory based on Intel XMP gives you that extra edge you need to dominate—without breaking a sweat.

Now let's click on the "Download the Excel* spreadsheet" or "View the PDF" on the right that is right below this:

Intel has developed a certification program for memory vendors to test their products for compatibility against Intel XMP. To view compatible memory DIMMs from a variety of vendors, select Spreadsheet to download and be able to sort the Excel* datasheet, or PDF to simply view the datasheet:

Look at the list .... more than half the the RAM on Intel's officially "Certified Compatible" List is over 1.5 volts.

3. One of my son's friends bought a 970 for $320 .... kept the games and sold the card for $270 (cost him $50 for $120 worth of games). Other folks bought two 970s, sold the 2nd set coupons for $100. Add the cost of the PSU and cupla years worth of electric and ya true cost is up there.

4. I have done over a half dozen builds with both (one 2 days ago) ... just speaking from experience. You can't NOT automatically control control fan speeds with the Corsair....and having both, I can tell you the quality, fit and finish is not equal. The 500R (16.6 lbs) has a lot more plastic....Pro (26.0 lbs) has a lot more steel which is why it weights 10 pounds more.

1. Quick question: The CPU and GPU affect performance, so how does the motherboard have any effect? Have any graph with 1080p not 1440?

2. It's my first custom build so I have no idea how to OC anything. I'm just starting with the CPU and maybe (just maybe), I'll OC the GPU. I don't see a need to OC RAM.
