Should I pair my FX-8350 with a GTX 1060 or a 1070? I'm upgrading from an RX 470

My current setup:
CPU : FX-8350 (not oc)
GPU : RX 470 4GB
RAM : Corsair vengeance 8GB 1600mhz DDR3
COOLER : Cooler Master Hyper 212x

I want to upgrade my graphics card, but I want to keep my CPU. I'm quite new to this sort of thing so forgive my ignorance!
Should I just buy the GTX 1070 and deal with the bottleneck or lessen the bottleneck and get the GTX 1060? I'm willing to pay the extra for a new monitor as I've heard that getting 1440p or higher would lessen the strain on the CPU. I want to run all games as best as I can. Would the 1070 perform better than the 1060 even with the bottleneck? Is it worth upgrading the RX 470 to the GTX 1060?

(PS: I want to run Shadow of War at high fps when it comes out on high settings)

1070 should still be fine, 1060 6gb is a cost-effective update

Your processor is quite old now for most of the recent cards. You should think of upgrading it before any high end card. For now 1060 is the max that can be recommended.

The GTX-1060 6GB is a better card than the RX-470, yes. Is it worth it for what performance gain there is? I'm not sold that to upgrade to the 1060 6GB is worth it. Now, the GTX-1070 is completely worth it.

That leaves your FX8350 as your weakest link (No real upgrade path with the AM3+ socket) and it will bottleneck when you demand all the performance of the 1070. And... yes, bumping up to 1440p will lessen the bottleneck some.

Don't think your gonna see much of an improvement moving from you RX 470 to a GTX 1060 at 1080 resolution... I say stick with what you got.

A GTX 1070 level card would be required if you wanted smooth gameplay with all the options on at 1440p.

That said however your CPU is known to cause micro stutter issues is some games... I don't think upgrading your graphics card will help in those cases.

You could upgrade the GPU to a GTX 1070, and then later on purchase a new CPU which then will 'unlock' the extra performance. I am considering doing this, as I currently have an FX 8350 and a GTX 960. I am considering on what to upgrade first.

Videocards are always the first to be outdated so buying a videocard now without using it to full potential means a bad investment because in 1 year the next generation will appear which will have better performance for the same money. It is always recomended to upgrade the cpu first, a good cpu can last you up to 7-10 years.

If I got a 1070/1060, I might still be using it in 3 or 4 years time (Current PC is 4 years old). For me, I just want to know what will give me the LARGEST performance jump, NOW. I am planning on upgrading both, but just not in one go. Maybe 6 months later I would upgrade the other part.
I would expect to keep the CPU for 3-5 years before I upgraded. I would probably purchase a R5 1600 now, and then which ever is the last CPU to be used on the same platform later. (2000 or 3000 series).

I have a similar problem to the OP, except I have a GTX 960.

Let me reiterate more elaborately.
If you are pairing your FX with a 1070 with the pan of moving to Ryzen 6 months down the line, it is simply not "the LARGEST performance jump, NOW". It can be a GOOD jump when you actually pair them.
