Should I remove the plastic from the backplate?

I'm building a PC right now and there is plastic on the outside of the backplate, I think it's glued to the metal part. Should I just pull it off? Also there are these bits of metal over the ports, what do I do with them?

I gather they are just protective covers - remove them. Check your mobo instructions.
