Should I replace my 1060 with a 2060? (Mostly 600w supply question).

Hey everyone,

I have a build that consists of;
i7-7700
ASUS GTX 1060 Turbo
16GB DDR4
Chieftec eco 600W Bronze gpe-600s (power supply)
ASUS Prime B250M-K (motherboard)
500gb SSD
2tb HDD.

My friend wants to buy my currently used 1060, so I want to replace it with a 2060 but, I don't know if my current power supply could handle it.

I am a really fps hungry guy, so this swap would be awesome. I am playing with 144hz and 1080p. I'm not worried about 1440, 4k...

So overall: Will my power supply handle the bigger beast?

Thanks in advance,

Have a wonderful day! :)

Your power supply satisfies the spec but I wouldn't use an old Chieftec power supply on my system with a new RTX 2060. I think the potential is too great (for me anyway) that the old supply could potentially cause problems with the new card or the old hardware. I would buy a better quality supply and I would stay above 600 watts....and if I was planning on upgrading down the road I would size the new supply accordingly.

Do you have any good suggestions for me in the $80 range? Thanks.

Here are two of what I think are really good models.

I think pretty much everyone agrees that Seasonics are great power supplies.

....and in the last year I bought two 750s and a 1000 of this model.
I've been using them all no problem. They are very quiet.
They also get good reviews.

If I buy the 2060 now, do you think I can squeeze 2 months using the card with my old psu, before I buy a new PSU? I hope the old chieftec won’t blow up in 2 months...
