I've recently been having crashes and difficulties booting my pc. I checked the connection between the 24 pin socket and connector and 2 of the connectors pins had melted inside the socket. The connection was a 90° adapter so i still have a functioning 24 pin connector. I'm unable to get the plastic out of one of the sockets pins. Should i purchase a new motherboard ? And was this even the cause for my crashes in the first place ?

Yes, if you are not familiar with electronic repair you should just replace the PSU and Motherboard to be on the safe side.

Yes, very warm temperatures on the motherboard and potentially arcing inside the connector would easily be enough to disrupt normal operation.
