Question Should I replace my R7 450 + Ryzen 5 1400 with a Ryzen 3 2200g PRO?

So I found a great deal on Ebay, $30 for a Ryzen 3 2200g PRO, and my graphics card is well... trash, so I was wondering if for light gaming would a Ryzen 3 2200g PRO be better than a R7 450 + Ryzen 5 1400?

This is a sideways update rather than an upgrade. The CPU perform almost identically.

You should consider a modest graphics card update, if possible with your current rig. Is your PC a prebuild (I suspect HP) or is it a standard 'custom' build?

It is a custom build. Do you have any suggestions on ultra budget cards (like under $45) Edit: Used is fine

Save some money up as you look around. Even something in the 1660 tier is going to smoke that old R7.

Older cards like the 480/580, 970, 1060 would also be a huge upgrade.

Your current PSU would need to be considered.

Would this mining RX 470 last?

Random life span, could be 1 day or 7 years easily. It is very unlikely it will last more than 7 years, yes, and from other's people's experiences they usually last 3-5 years with modest use, but it is not rare they die very fast, too.

Considering you already have a fallback videocard, you can take the gamble, you just have $40 to lose worst case, and best case you have a graphic performance multiplied 4 times for a respectable amount of years.

The only cards sub $50 worth buying used with your CPU are the RX 470, RX 480, RX 570 & RX 580, specially 8GB models, other cards at the price are just barely better from what you have now, and integrated graphics I would recommend minimum a 4600G and ideally a 5600G, in case you wanna spend $100-130 for it and adjust for a better budget dGPU in the future, or buy them used for cheaper, used CPUs are nearly always safe bet used.

There is also the Athlon 3000G integrated for $55 but you will lose 40% CPU performance for 40%+ graphic performance, I do not think it is a good tradeoff.

It's cheap enough to take the gamble. I've used a couple of ex mining cards in the past and they worked well without issues, but maybe I got lucky?

Just be aware it only has a single DVI output and requires an 8 pin power connector...if your PSU has an PCIe 8 pin (or 6+2) then I'm guessing it's going to be powerful enough to run a 120w GPU.

Only other thing, being a mining card, you may have to flash the card's BIOS to get it's full gaming potential.

Terrible card for video output. It only has one DVI connector.

What's the brand and model of your PSU?
Why is it terrible? I have a Rosewill PSU, the one that comes with Rosewill FBM-X2-400-HELIX.

The first one, the RX 470 that is $40, you may need a dvi to hdmi adapter, and youll only have 1 monitor output (well unless you also get a g series cpu and enable both onboard graphics and the GPU in the bios). Its free shipping and they have a 30 day no questions asked return window. Also the GTX 1050 is horribly outclassed vs the RX 470, the RX 470 has twice the vram and 60% more performance.

Wow, thanks for all the info!

Terrible because it only has one video output with a max resolution of 1920x1200 @60Hz. Besides that the card has a mining BIOS so for decent gaming performance you need to flash to the regular BIOS. If you're fine with the output limitations you can give it a try to flash the BIOS.

That's a $50 case includes the PSU. It's a terrible group regulated unit. Usually you pay $50 for a half decent 400w PSU on it's own.

The RX 470 they found seems like it may be alright. It was supposedly flashed back to a standard rx 470 bios, and has a 30 days no questions asked return window with return shipping paid for. I've definitely seen and bought sketchier.
