Should I replace this hard drive?

I was having issues transferring some files from my external HDD so tried to run some checks on it.

HD Tune error scan quick test was okay, but when I tried to run extended test it came to a grinding halt at the 1.2 TB mark (on 3 TB drive) and just sat there for hours. I eventually just stopped the test.

It's a WD drive so I also tried the LifeGuard diagnostics which provided me similar results: no problem with the quick test, but the extended test hung up at like 40% completion even though I let it run overnight (>10 hours).

What is the issue here? Seems busted to me... but I don't understand why the test wouldn't even complete. Is it worth trying to rescue this hard drive in some way or should it be replaced? The hard drive is not that old (<2 years) so I am a little surprised by the issue.

If the extended test won't complete, and "having issues transferring some files"...it sounds like it is failing.
I just looked up the serial number on their site and apparently it is out of warranty by two months... go figure.

Is the drive just fully failing? I don't understand what the test results mean.

Luckily I was able to transfer the data off the drive onto my new computer drives within the last few days.
