Hello everyone on tomshardware forums!

So about 2 weeks ago I got a MSI Z590 Pro WIFI board from my local Best Buy paired with a i7-10700 CPU. Although I didn't realize that Z590 boards are mainly focused on 11th gen cpus till later after doing more research about this board. The only problems with the board is that I can't use M.2_1 slot since it's gen 4 and something like 2 sata ports are disabled with 10th gen cpus and how PCIE gen 4 is not supported too.

After going to GameStop today I completely forgot that they sell motherboards and they had a Z490 Asus Tuf gaming board for 189 dollars while this board is mainly for 10th gen cpus only. Do you guys think I should switch over to Z490 boards instead cause honestly I feel like I wasted some features, plus it was the only LGA 1200 board my Best Buy had, I didn't wanna get B or H boards since I heard it could limit CPU performance or ram so I got Z boards instead. I'm also very new to newer hardware since before I'll always build or make upgrades from older gaming pc hardware, I just jumped from my LGA 1155 platform to a 1200. My first gaming build was an LGA 775 one then onto LGA 1156.

Thank you for reading have a good day/night!

Note: I still have till May 25th to return the board to Best Buy, but I wanted to ask you guys for advice if I should switch over or not, honestly I don't think I'll be upgrading to newer cpus anymore because the i7-10700 is amazing compared to my i7-3770!

MSI Z590 Pro WIFI has 3x M.2 slots. Only one of them is unusable because of 10th gen cpu.
For PCIE gen 4 you'd need 11th gen cpu anyway. Changing to Z490 gives you nothing.
Well maybe instead of changing the motherboard, change the cpu ... swap your cpu for a 11th gen cpu. I don''t really know whether they will let you do that of course. You have the latest motherboard chipset, that's a good thing.

I have a X570 motherboard but I only have a Ryzen 7 2700x on it, so I am not getting the best out of my motherboard either. I can however, at a later stage, upgrade to the very latest AMD CPU's, and also upgrade the GPU to a PCIe 4.0, and also upgrade the NVMe drive to a PCIe 4.0 one. So even though I am not using it to the fullest extent at the moment, keeping the X570 motherboard gives me plenty of upgrade options.

Yeah you're right, I should stick with the board but then again I don't think I'll be upgrading CPUs anymore since I'll be sticking with this for years or until it dies. Honestly having no gen 4.0 or some slots won't work with 10th gen cpus isn't a big problem for me anyways, I just wanted to ask to see what other would think about this.

Yeah you're right would be a waste having to go through return service and what not, I'll be sticking with this board forever, thank you for the advice highly appreciate it!
