Should I run games at 1080p 60FPS+ or 1440p 40-50FPS with RX 480?

I just bought myself a MSI Gaming X RX 480 8GB. I read from different reviews that RX 480 can run max detail with 60FPS+ usually on 1080p but could only manage around 40-50FPS if 1440p.

For me I usually play some FPS like rainbow six, COD, and sometimes some RTS like company of heroes. Not a competitive player but more of a casual player.

I am wondering if the smoothness of 60FPS+ or the extra detail of 1440p would be more beneficial. For your information I got a 4K 60hz monitor Samsung U28E590D.

it does not matter whether its more beneficial or not,if your a casual game then you dont care about benefits,you care about the experience and the enjoyment right? in that case i would always go for 1080p over 40-50fps,you still notice the 10 fps differance. play on 60 for a few mins then limit it to 40 or 50 and decide what you like better(i can assure you, you will prefer 60 fps)

Well 1080P scales to 4K very easily. Pixels are simply quadrupled in a 2x2 square. Looks pretty decent. 1440p doesn't fit into 4K nicely and scaling gets all weird and you might get artifacts.

Thanks for the opinion. Actually I have never had rigs that could run 60FPS with max settings. So I would probably try the 1080p option
