Should I sacrifice CPU performance for GPU

I'm deciding on wether to get a laptop with an i7-4710HQ and 870M graphics, or to get an i7-6700HQ with a 960M graphics. I use my laptop primarily for gaming, recording, video editing, photoshop and 3D Modeling, so obviously, performance is key. I will decide what to buy, I just need to know what specs I should get. Thanks

The 4710HQ has only 10% slower average CPU performance than the 6700HQ, while it's corresponding 870M graphics is 35% faster GPU performance than the 960M graphics.

Under the principle of marginal benefit/costs, it seems like the i7-4710HQ is the better computer.

I would, especially if it's cheaper, get the 17-4710HQ and 870M model.

Cheers mate, hope this helps.

They are at the same price

I would get the 960M because it's newer and has a lower TDP (75W vs 100W), which is very important when talking about a laptop.

That's a really good point, OP, how many fans do these laptops come with?

If just one, then you might not want to put it on your lap...

But if you got a pair of headphones to block out the fan noise you should be in the clear.

Edit: Regardless, unplugged laptops usually revert to integrated graphics, so having the better "max performance" despite the higher TDP might be well worth it.

get the gtx 960M . it is not only about cpu speed , every thing in the notebook is more advanced..

can you give me links to the notebooks?

I would get:
#1 Asus ROG ZX50VW-MS71 (which is an exclusive version of the GL552 for MicroCenter). Specs: i7 6700HQ, 960M, 16GB DDR4, 1TB 5400RPM, and a Transcend 370S 128GB
#2 MSI GS60 3K-097. Specs: i7 4710HQ, 870M, 1TB (I don't know the speed of this one), 128GB (I don't also know the model), 16GB DDR3.
So yeah, those are what I have in mind

If I'm not mistaken, the MSI's screen resolution is tremendously better and would yield a nice visual experience. It even has more VRAM.

AND it's half an inch thinner!

Once again, I'm putting my marbles on the MSI computer. My case here is done book em boys.

The msi is lighter and more portable

but it drains battery fast and has very small battery , if you dont car about battery much it is better than Asus

this i it

try to fing the new msi ghost with gtx 970

The model I picked is 1080p
And also, I don't have money to afford a GS60 with 970M (as you may tell, my budget is extremely limited
