i use r9 290 tri x oc model gpu. currently i play @ 1080p. honestly , the gpu reaches nearly 60 on most games. however i wish to have 60+ on my games on max.

now amd is pulling out new gpus and i was wondering if i should sell this ,get higher gpu or nvidia equivalent ... or what?
most of the latest games dont go 60 fps on this card at max.it gives 40 to 55 fps for most AAA titles at best. wish to have a card that gives 60 fps atleast . :/ help?

edit:
basicaly guys i want to game at 60 fps. wont go above for a while atleast.anything above will cause screen tearing (60hz gaming lel). i dont want an overkill gpu combo (2 r9 290 are overkill for 1080p i think).moreover wondering if i will have a different option to go with an nvidia card with the gpu multiadapter technology from win 10 and if it would be better than crossfiring when it comes.i want you guys to consider win 10 possibilities before suggesting if possible.

PLEASE CONSIDER YOUR ANSWERS FOR 1080p 60hz for AAA games on max settings only. i dont plan to use multi monitor, no 4k and no 120hz (this maybe possible , but not anytime soon since i find those setups to be not cost effective, we are not ready for 4k yet and higher res monitors are pretty hard to find in my area .)

TL😀R: r9 290user . need to game at 1080p 60 fps atleast for all games at max settings.consider win 10 possibilities and suggest upgrade plz. :3

edit edit: in case i consider crossfire:
-need to upgrade psu
-need to get a better cabinet
-need to get a higher ups (electricity inconsistent in my area)
-deal with extra energy costs

newer gpu:
- sell my r9 290 {a big hassle} , since no one in my area is gonna pay this much for a gaming card =_= , prolly gonna be a hard thing getting it to sell.
-slap it in and play.but since its gotta be better than an r9 290 , i cant really tell which will be more cost effective thing.

Solution
Crossfire is highly dependent upon developer and AMD support (even more so than Nvidia's SLI). Most major titles eventually get crossfire support, so if you're capable of waiting for a AAA game, just do that. Otherwise upgrade to a stronger single card solution such as a 980ti or R9 Fury X
I would keep the R9 290, then look toward the used market for a second matching one. This would give you the best bang-for-the-buck in regards to upgrade potential. The better question here is what power supply you have. A pair of R9 290 GPUs in crossfire will require 850w to be safe.... If you wanted to replace the R9 290 with a single card, look toward the R9 390 / 390x or GTX 980 Ti.

EDIT: The above still holds true for upgrades, but just noticed you are gaming at 1080. In that case, I wouldn't change anything. The R9 290 is great at 1080 resolution. Look to upgrade if / when you run multiple monitors.

A single 970 will give you higher frame rates at 1080p, if you want to pay for it. Really, it all depends on how much you want to spend to get 60+ fps in most, if not all, games at 1080p.

Tom's has a good link comparing the relative performance of each to other cards: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107.html

Edit: Although I've fairly sure a 970 would do it, make that a 980 or 980ti, and you definitely should hit 60+ fps in pretty much any title at 1080p.
