ASUS ROG Swift PG278QR 27” Gaming Monitor 1440p 1ms 165Hz DP HDMI G-SYNC Eye Care

Ordered for my build:
RTX 2070
i5-9600K
16GB DDR4 3000Mhz

I know I won't be able to max out 1440p 144Hz a LOT of newer games.. because apparently I'd need a 2080Ti for that.. I did however hope to get decent resolution and frames in Red Dead Redemption 2 and I'm hearing that game is a mess on PC. Does my build even support this monitor well? Would I be able to play anything on 1440p 144Hz on max settings? Obviously older games... I play a lot of Overwatch but apparently my build isn't good enough for this? So for the future.. DOOM Eternal, Metro Exodus, Borderlands 3, Cyberpunk: 2077, etc..

Would I be doomed to play games at 1440p, medium to low settings 144Hz?

I have also been told my build is wasted on a 1080p 60Hz display. So I'm confused.. it arrives today but I could just return it to Amazon without even opening it and get my $520 back. Should I blissfully continue gaming in maxed out settings 1080p 60Hz? This PC was just built January 2019 so it's not going anywhere for awhile.

Nah man, keep it. For most modern AAA titles you will definitely not get up to 144 FPS most of the time but for small indie games or well optimized games like Rainbow 6 or Gears of war 5 you will be pleasantly surprised.

Once you go 144Hz from 60 there is no going back. Plus down he line you might upgrade and you'll be ready for it.

Keep that monitor!

I have an x3800 on x570 with a 2070 Super. Red Dead 2 is what it is, not all that well optimized but a beautiful open world.

I had a 1080p TN 144Hz monitor. Just got the ROG Swift monitor a couple weeks ago. Everthing looks so much better. I'll never go back to 1080p or a TN panel.

That monitor is that good!

I got a TN panel... lol. I've never known other and it was a good bit cheaper. With all my incentives to get this particular monitor I will end up only paying $495 for it. The IPS would've been probably $100 more. And I read stuff I didn't like about IPS.. I know they both have their pros and cons like anything else.
