Should I "step up" to evga GTX 1080 from EVGA gtx 1070 SC or SLI another 1070?

My step up is out of the q and ready for payment and I can't decide if I want to step up to the 1080 or just add another 1070 for SLI. step after shipping is going to cost me approx. $250. Either way I believe all of it is overkill for my setup, however I have the itch to upgrade something. I really only play bf1 and sometimes ESO. 1080p resolution @ 144hz 2ms monitor.

My current Rig OC'd to 4.2ghz

ASUS VG278HE 27" Full HD 1920x1080 144Hz 2ms
Intel Core i5-4690K Devil's Canyon
MSI MSI Gaming Z97A GAMING 6 LGA 1150 Intel
EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 HYBRID GAMING (hybrid cooler added to gtx 1070 SC)
Corsair Vengeance 16 GB (4 x 4 GB) DDR3 1600 MHz PC3 12800

What would you upgrade? Go to a 1080? add another 1070 for SLI? Leave the system be?

I'd leave it be for now considering the GTX 1070 can handle your resolution/FPS fairly easy on pretty much every game out there. Also I would wait as the GTX 1080 ti should be released early next year and will give you near Titan Pascal performance for much cheaper ($1200 Titan X Pascal/$800 1080 Ti *Estimated*).

Like you said, the 1080 and 1070 SLI are both overkill for what you need but I totally get the "need to upgrade" something mentality (I recently bought the EVGA 850 T2 just to have titanium rating...)

If it were me, I'd opt for the 1080 rather than the SLI'd 1070s. It may push less frames, but I'd rather have a more powerful single card and not worry about any of the potential headaches that come with SLI.

However...what is your PSU? The SLI setup is going to require more juice than just a single 1080.

Yes go for it i had a gtx 1070 and played games like eso and i noticed that my fps would drop to even at 1080p in glinumbra i would get around 27fps on my 1070 and the same with skyrim modded most of the time it was at 60 but in heavy areas of the game the fps would drop tremendously in games like tomb raider on my singles gtx 1070 i would get 30fps in heavy areas for the most time it stayed at 60 but yes it would go down to 30 so i decided to go sli even though every one told me not to and i have not looked back in skyrim my fps tripled idk how but it did eso doubled easy 60fps constant no stutters and on tomb raider i got 70 in the heavy areas
