Computer hardware:
evga gtx 970 acx 2.0
biostar a960D+
16gb kingston 1600 sticks
antec 1200W (video card only)
cooler master 500W (board and accessories)
amd FX-6300 14MB cache version
Aftermarket 6 heatpipe fan cooled heatsink.

should i just upgrade my board and cpu

or

what would be equal to or greater comparison for intel processor and motherboard combo

its all in a very old mint condition e-atx server case (project) so i have room for full size boards.

Looking for under $300 for a swap or upgrade.

The card was running on an internal 5.25" 500W psu but it ate it for breakfast... only other one i had around was a 1200W psu. I cant properly gauge the bottleneck with the system currently. so i cant decide to upgrade board and cpu, or swap them... either way it will have 2 gtx970's eventually but this has to happen first.

for 300 though I dont see a way to get a decent performance increase and I personally like amd but will be switching to intel just for performance reasons and in order for you to get a noticeable increase in gaming your going to want to do the same and that will be over your budget

its kind of a two parter... if i was going to upgrade, what should i upgrade to, and if i was to switch what would be the equal or greater performance on the intel side

http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/361/AMD_FX-Series_FX-6300_vs_Intel_Core_i5_i5-4460.html

well its a close match, plus i gain a bit of performance and more options on the motherboard. Decided this is the current best solution
