My system (mainly for gaming):

Gigabyte EP45-DS3L
E8400 @3.6 ghz
4 gigabtye DDR2 800 mhz ram
Corsair TX 750
BFG GTX 280 OC2

Would getting a quad core CPU help in games? I want to use my GTX 280 to its fullest potential. Is it worth getting a quad with my current setup?

Maybe if you had an early 65nm dual, it would be worthwhile, but your already kickin a$$ and taking names, enjoy and do a full system upgrade in a couple years.

Quads are nice. I would make a strong argument that they beat duals in almost every case now.

That having been said, they don't beat duals by enough to make it worth replacing a wolfdale at 3.6GHz unless you're swimming in money. Your CPU is excellent already - there's no need to replace it.

it will probably be a while before a quad is a necessity. your in good shape for a couple years. even the games that are optimized or so badly ported they perform better with a quad should be playable on your system.
