If it isn't broke, don't fix it. That's part and parcel of the KISS principle. You have already strayed away from the norm by mixing brands. However the timings, voltage and speeds are identical. This is an issue faced by a very very tiny minority of PC users. Usually mixing RAM instead of buying a complete kit isn't recommended. Sometimes money is a big decision maker.

If it is working leave them in. If you are hitting weird blyue screens take them out.

Use CPUZ from CPUID to see the memory speed you are running. Google and only download from CPUID. IF you see the system memory setting from teh memory tab is a lot slower than the SPD data for your 2x 8GB memory then I would consider taking out the 2X 2GB. Otherwise leave them in.

Do make sure the paired memory sticks are in the paired dimm slots so that you can run in dual channel mode. Its not much better, but will give single digit performance boosts for some workloads.

Good Luck.

Aside, win7 or win8 or win10 is using that memory to pre-fetch programs that you run so that when you start them they will start very quickly.

What would lead you to believe the Corsair is slowing things down? The speeds of the Corsair are the same as the Patriot RAM. TO answer your question, no the Corsair isn't slowing things down.
