Question Should I take the Pentium 4 Cooler?

Hello, my new processor, an Intel Core2Duo E8400, just arrived and I'd like to install it as fast as I can. But my previous processor, the Pentium 4 HT 631 has a D95263-001 cooler, which is bigger than the boxed cooler of the E8400(E33681-001). Should I clean the Pentium 4 cooler(because it wasn't cleaned the last 10 years and it's very dusty) and use it for the E8400? Thanks in advance.

Sure, if it's bigger/better than the cooler that came with the Core 2 Duo then it should work great.

Doesn't the E8400 cooler have a copper slug in it?

Yeah, if the old one is better than the new one, and it fits the mounting holes, go ahead. No issue with that.

I looked under the E8400 cooler and I couldn't see any copper. Also what I noticed is that the E8400 cooler has a bigger surface than the P4 cooler
