i bought a prebuild pc a week ago and the guy WHO assemple it put the cooler in my pc upside Down... resulting in the cooler not working at all.... (it was watercooling since ive heard its getting better... anyway, thats not what the topic is about)

i got my pc, and allready on load up i could hear something was wrong... it sounded like a full server room... at first i just thought to myself i was an idiot for trying out the watercool system, but after a few days my pc started telling me 100% of one of my cores was used... i didnt even notice any performance decrease or anything since ive been playing on a 10 year old pc...

i then ran a few programs like HWMonitor and found out that the cpu was always above 90* when i was inside a good graphic game... and we found out about the cooler...

anyway the cooler is now correctly mounted, but my pcu still gets 85* hot, and my guess is the cooler broke while being mounted wrong...

anyway... long story short... im going to get a new cooler tomorrow, but should i also demand a new cpu? he tells me that the new cpu's cant be damaged because of heat, but to be honest, i dont trust him much... i have read around on the net, but i cant find information on how my cpu should react in this situation... so... should i demand a new cpu aswell?

A cpu can be damaged by overheating.
The motherboard should shut the system down before it gets to that, but there are no guarantees.

To be honest, I would simply return it and get my money back. For one thing yes of course CPUs can be damaged by heat (you wouldn't see so much attention to cooling otherwise). It is brand new, why take a chance? Especially since if you don't get a new system you most likely won't have problems for a while, and by then you will no longer be covered by warranty. Get it fixed now.

I wouldn't exchange it though I would get my money back and go elsewhere. Yes, anyone can put a cooler on wrong such that it isn't making perfect contact, but A. Someone who puts it on completely upside down obviously has no business building PCs professionally and who knows what else he screwed up and B. He clearly did no testing at all to make sure it works or he would have caught that. Just get your money back and buy from someone who knows what they are doing.
