should i turn off vsync on far cry 4?

i have an amd fx8350 paired with a evga gtx 970 ftw and a 720p 60hz display, should i use vsync? or is it unnecessary?

You will be able to run all settings at max at 720p with that card...
Vsync will reduce the strain on your card... making it not have to work as hard.

I'm guessing without it you will get noticeable screen tearing

If you have a 60hz monitor then Vsync is a good tool to leave on to reduce screen tearing and micro stuttering. It matches the fps of the game to work with the refresh rate of your monitor for smooth gameplay. I have a 60hz monitor and use Vsync in all of my games.

Bump all the settings up to maximum, including AA.
Then play with vsync on for a bit... then turn it off and see if you like the change.

right, I only asked cause im seeing some people getting 45 fps and if that's the case then I would just be making my gameplay more bad if I turned on vsync

Vsync would lock your frame rate at 60FPS.
It also may smooth out your gameplay, it could also worsen it.

Try both and decide.

Try adaptive vsync, you can set it in your nvidia control panel. It works better for some games than others, but it will only enable vsync if it's needed allowing you to keep your overall frame rate higher. You can also try setting a 60 fps limit

adaptive doesn't work for some reason on my games I think its a driver issue and im going to do a clean install once I finish installing windows 8.1

im just playing with optimal settings from nvidia control panel now and it works much better than v-sync or adaptive and somehow im getting 50-60 fps only on my display with the vsync turned off which is weird.
