I'm using laptop Alienware 17, GTX 860M, driver vesion 381.65. Lately, when I installed version 411.63, I couldn't play some games (like Dying Light, Guilty Gear,...), they auto close window after 5-6 seconds but it can run when I were using Intel HD 4600. After I reinstalled version 381.65, I can play again. My laptop performance is getting worse, some of my Steam game like CSGO, DOTA 2,... drop fps from 120 fps before to 5-7fps now. Not overheat, RAM still good. I don't know what cause it. Should I try update Nvidia driver again? Can you help me?
So sorry for my bad English.

Solution
Yes, that's why I reinstalled default version of my Nvidia gpu but it not fix the drop fps issue
When you have a big problem like that the first move is to try to solve the root of the problem. You need to clean your windows installation remove that out of the equation. Only after then you can understand of the problem is hardware since then it cannot be software 😉.

From my personal experience, its most likely a misconfiguration of your system or viruses.
from what i've noticed from personal experience, the majority of driver updates are for bug fixes and the such, what i was always told was, "don't update unless you have to, sometimes driver updates will make things worse"

The best solution, since it's a old laptop, it would be resetting windows 10 to its defaults or actually wipe the drive and make a clean install of Windows 10.
Only then you can make a good evaluation of the problem because with a clean install you remove the possibility of viruses and misconfigs.
If you need further assistance, PM me and I can give you personal assistance to this problem.

Thank you for reply. I tried your solution. I even bought a SSD, clean install window 10 on SSD. Maybe my laptop is running better but it didn't fix the drop fps issue. If it not be fix after this thread, maybe I will stop use current laptop to play game.

Maybe you right. 1 thing I don't add in this thread is my battery is dead too. I always plug battery in but it's not charging. I heard it does nothing with the drop fps so I didn't add it. Maybe it is the root. Thank you.

The battery does not affect your performance if you are using your charger. It could be off, completely charged or being charged, the performance will be the same. But those fps clearly show that something is wrong with your system software wise. The 860M car run CS Go way above 60fps, this is mostly a cpu issue and I am almost sure it will be solved when you reinstall your windows
