Hello. I would really like some help. If anyone has experience with windows update please read this and help me out. So after cleaning out my hard drive and starting fresh from factory settings due to a mouse and keyboard problem that i couldnt fix im afraid to update windows because i think it was an update that screwed it up. I had a problem after shutting down my computer. It would load up and when the windows screen would come up or the desktop i couldnt use the keyboard or mouse. It was weird cus it would work if i would use system restore. But everytime i would shut down it would do the same thing again. Sometimes even when i would restart it it would do it too. I even tried a new mouse and keyboard to make sure that wasnt the problem. So i was thinking its an update that messes it up. Not sure though So after completing my factory system restore i now have 73 important updates. I want to know if i have to update them(cuz im afraid my mouse and keyboard wont work again)? Or if there are some that i only have to do? If i dont update will i be at risk? Please help. Below are all the updates.

Yes I would recommend updating all updates labeled important. Lots of security fixes.

Any of my keyboard and mouse updates were always labeled under optional. I never used them though as I have no need for extra software for macros and such.

What keyboard and mouse are you using?

Im using the mouse an keyboard that came with the computer. They are HP usb connected. I aint gonna lie im afraid to update those updates

All i did was system recovery. Meaning i cleaned everything to factory settings. Do you mean my video card drivers? Yes i have.

So far so good. installed all of them except for these three...

Download size: 12.3 MB

Update type: Important

After the download, this tool runs one time to check your computer for infection by specific, prevalent malicious software (including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom) and helps remove any infection that is found. If an infection is found, the tool will display a status report the next time that you start your computer. A new version of the tool will be offered every month. If you want to manually run the tool on your computer, you can download a copy from the Microsoft Download Center, or you can run an online version from microsoft.com. This tool is not a replacement for an antivirus product. To help protect your computer, you should use an antivirus product.

I realise this thread is very old.....But I'm currently experiencing exactly the same thing!

Did you ever find a solution for this?

I have narrowed it down to;

Everytime I install this update, all USB devices stop working! Keyboard works for getting into BIOS etc...
But at welcome screen, neither mouse or keyboard will respond. Logged in with a ps2 Keyboard, to find none of my USB devices responding at all!

Never happened on my last install of Windows 7!

I honestly cant remember how i fixed this but ill tell you one of the last things i did that i can remember. I downloaded a driver sweeper. Cant remember the name but you can do some research and see which one is recommended. Delete old drivers or previous drivers. Dont forget to update them as well. Also try to download malwarebytes anti-malware program to get rid of any viruses. In the end i dont believe it was windows that messed up my computer. Its very frustrating. Just keep trying to figure out whats causing the problem and eventually youll figure it out. Sorry i couldnt be much help.
