That's alright! I enjoy helping people.
Yes you would have to upgrade the processor and motherboard to be able to use DDR4. As it currently is, DDR4 brings performance improvements to DDR3, but they will both work as they are currently. As they stand right now, either works. DDR4 is new and thus more expensive, so a RAM upgrade to your current system would be more wallet friendly :)
Hello Tijn__,

You do not need to upgrade anything.
Games these days, as you said, are getting system requirements that require a beefy system. Your CPU and GPU are quite good for today, and the 970 is a great card, so even for future games you should be covered! Even high graphic fidelity games like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Star Citizen will run quite smoothly on your system.

Even if your system is not the latest Intel quad-core i7, you will find that in a lot of cases, you won't need that (and the 4760k is a very nice processor, even if it isn't brand new).

Hopefully this helps,
-Nick

yeah 16 gb would be nice but do i then have to look at ddr4 or just stick with my ddr3 ram...

DDR4 is not available for your processor.
