should I upgrade from 7970 to 970?

I have a nice rig (or I believe) 7970 (1000/1500) +i5 ivy k (4.3G) +16G Ram (1600Mhz)+750W PSU +2TB HDD+ 128G SSD. Plus 1080p 23'' monitor.

-Really no heavy issues with games (Emulators, + some new games like BF4 + Shadow of mordor +AC4 +TR2013+Skyrim(fully modded) +TWR2 +SC2). All at least in high, some in ultra.

-But I have some minor lagging issues with Shadow of mordor (with vsync sometimes it drops from 60fps to 30fps while running through the map for a a second). I think I have aminor frame-pacing issue.

-I can sell in these days my 7970 plus USD 130 and get a new 970.

So, I ask:
-(frame-pacing), it is worth upgrading to 970? or it won't be such a difference?
-(more vram, +1GB), worth it?
-Or just wait 2015, would be a better year for gpu's?

I just did the exact same thing. I sold my Sapphire 7970 3GB OC w/ Boost and got a 970.

VSYNC works the same on all cards, so if you go below 60fps even on a GTX970 it will still stutter.

Skyrim is a bad example for gaming... mostly because of all the mods. It is hard to say if it will work better or not. I know my 970 didn't perform much better than the 7970 in Skyrim. I ended up replacing an ENB which I like even better. I went from Sharpshooter's ENB to another. Much better performance and is more 'fantasy' style.

Tomb Raider- I saw increases around 10-15fps, but still not 60fps. I could get 60 if I turn down the AA and AA quality. I ended up at 2x AA with the normal quality AA. I hit 60 with that.

Either way, I don't regret upgrading. I'd go for it, however it isn't going to be 60fps in every game with full AA.

Since the HD 7970 is equivalent to a GTX 680, you would gain about 25%-35% performance increase going to a GTX 970. Not much of an increase, but with more technological advances, like DirectX 12, and a modest price tag, then upgrading to one is not a bad idea. You should be able to max out most games with it and get 60 fps. I have Battlefield 4 running smoothly on ultra and 4x MSAA.

I got a 7850 it cost $125 it does all I ask of it works fine the 970 is $350

so I look at the threads here at toms where guys posted there heaven results and mine are there too in some now I admit the 7850 is not up there with them but for the difference in the scores I don't see that $200 between them , but that's just me ..

I would think a better card as like you got over me unless it just died or rendered useless then I really could not see it [opinion]
