Should I upgrade from a 1600*900 resolution monitor to 1080P?

I have a 1080P Video Card (GTX 960 4GB OC Edition) but my monitor is not a full 1080P monitor.

I have an LG Flatron E2041, great monitor by the way!

Should I try to sell this and upgrade to a 1080P or wait until I upgrade my computer in a few years and get a 2K monitor instead?

Is it really a huge difference? I'm afraid my monitor is bottlenecking the GPU and I'm not getting what I should be getting from the GPU.

If you were in my place, what would you do and how much would you sell it for if anything? (Probably I will sell it on Craigslist). Also might need some help convincing my parents LOL.

Your fps will drop a bit when you move from the 1600x900 to the 1920x1080 monitor. If that isn't an issue for you, go with the 1080p display. If you go 2K you will probably want a faster gfx card then too, because your fps will drop off again with the GTX 960... more so.

Is 1600*900 resolution a huge difference? Will I even notice it? I sit 2 feet away from my monitor

And a 2k monitor when I just do a full PC upgrade.

It doesn't matter how far you sit from the display. The more pixels the GPU has to render per second, the lower the frame rate will be. But no, not anything major. Maybe 10-15 fps depending on the game going from 900p to 1080p.
Here's a video showing what I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38PgBdT_mXI

There's not going to be too much difference in appearance from 900p, tho. If you are happy with the monitor you have now, it may be better to keep it until you can go 2K and a new card.
