Should I upgrade from my XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 320Mb to HD 5770 1GB?

Hi,

i´m thinking about upgrading my system. I want to replace my 8800gts 320 with HD 5770 and I wonder if it will be a good upgrade. I have a E6550 running at 3ghz and 4 GB ddr2. I game at 1280x1024.

I might buy a new 22WS LCD in the future, but not before my new rig, which I dont plan to build for at least 2 more years (this PC is almost 3 yeas old).

So...would that be a good upgrade? Im kind of sad because i know i can get more out of this pc and I just cant, because of a low Vram graphic card. Id like to play gta 4 maxed out. Same with crysis, arma 2 and so on.

The thing that I fear the most is that my c2d E6550 (3ghz) would bottleneck this card. What do u think.

Oh and one more thing...i have a ga-p35-ds3 MB and it says it supports ddr2/3. 8800 has ddr3 and HD 5770 ddr5. Will it be compatible with my MB?

Please suggest, thanks.

P.S.: Sorry for my bad english

First off, it would be a very good upgrade. You will get about 30% more performance.

The vRam will also help GTAIV, and at your resolution, Crysis should easily max out.

There will be no bottlenecks. The E6550 is a solid CPU.

The memory type of the graphics card (DDR5) does not matter. Your mobo can use a DDR GPU and a DDR5 GPU.

Now thats very convincing, thanks. I might upgrade. I just gotta decide if i´ll buy new one or used.

Is 100$ too much for used card? New is 160$ :D

5770 It would be a good upgrade. I had similar specs E6600 @ 3GHZ 8800GTS 320 before I upgraded to a OC 285GTX which gave me 4x the performance. The vram was also the bottleneck I ran into when I wanted to do higher res gaming.
