[SOLVED] Should I upgrade from ryzen 2000

I've had my system for about 2 years now upgraded my gpu to a 2070 super from gigabyte (sadly just one month before 3000)
And now the only dated thing I have is my ryzen 7 2700 is it worth an upgrade?
The other thing that has been bothering me is I only have 16 gb of ddr4 at 2666mhz is it best to just upgrade that to some 3200mhz?

The only thing that it lacks at is fs2020 where even on low I can only get 20fps.
And I live in Tonga Which is a small island in the south Pacific so we have to ship stuff here.
Budget of around $400 usd

I'd go with 2x8GB of 3600Mhz CL16 RAM and a Ryzen 3600 cpu.

Don't bother with 3000 Ryzen series, Ive experienced swap from 2700x to 3700x and almost regretted it, jump was minimal.
If for pure gaming, R5 5600x would be substantial upgrade, all you have to do is to flash appropriate BIOS version. If you feel that 6 cores are not enough, there's R7 5800x but gaming performance would be about equal.
If your wallet is itching,upgrading RAM to 3600MHz would also help.

What speed is the ram running at?
If more than one stick of ram is it running dual channel?

FS2020 can be quite playable at low fps.
If that is what you play most, then perhaps an upgrade is in order.
Most other fast action games are graphics limited and with today's prices, no graphics upgrades are reasonable.
I think you were actually lucky to get a 2070 super before the 3000 unobtainable series were launched.

To see if a cpu upgrade would be beneficial, do some experimenting.

Limit your cpu, either by reducing the OC, or, in windows power management, limit the maximum cpu% to something like 70%.
Go to control panel/power options/change plan settings/change advanced power settings/processor power management/maximum processor state/
This will simulate what a lack of cpu power will do.
Conversely what a 30% improvement in core speed might do.

You should also experiment with removing one or more cores/threads. You can do this in the windows msconfig boot advanced options option.
You will need to reboot for the change to take effect. Set the number of threads to less than you have.
This will tell you how sensitive your games are to the benefits of many threads.
If you see little difference, your game does not need all the threads you have.

Your r7-2700 has 16 threads and a passmark rating of 15708.
That is when all 16 threads are fully utilized.
The single thread performance is a bit more pedestrian at 2205.
Most games depend more on single thread performance.

By comparison, the I5-11400 ( or f )
has 12 threads and a rating of 17760/3032

I think a drop in upgrade, to a 5600x, wouldn't be a terrible idea, if you can get one, and your board has the necessary bios update for it.

How much is this a ‘want’ to upgrade verses ‘need’ to upgrade? It is still a very capable system.

The reason I ask is if this is more that you just want to upgrade then I would consider waiting a year. If you are considering a new cpu & RAM then why not wait for next generation which will use DDR5. If you ‘need’ to upgrade then ignore this idea.
