Should I upgrade from X58 to X99?

Five years ago I took the plunge and built my first PC on the X58 platform that I am still using today but I am starting to feel that my hardware is becoming obsolete. I have since changed several graphics cards and upgraded the memory but I am starting to feel it lags behind newer processors and I am considering an upgrade to an X99 platform.

In games my system still holds up well but most of my motherboard drivers are outdated and I have some minor compatibility issues with windows 8.

Is it worth it to upgrade now or should I wait a couple more years?

There's no such thing as future proofing and moving to X99 from X58 won't make it so. Lots of people are still gaming on X58 CPUs, some are even still using Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quads (even though I wouldn't recommend it). But paying $400 more for a system will in no way guarantee that a build will be "future proof". There's only two reasons to go X99 - you are building an audio / video production rig, or you're going...
The cost of DDR4 is really quite high atm, along with some of the other x99 components and this puts the cost up, but I have done the same thing, I've just upgraded from my old i7 950 x58 to a i7 5820K x99 and I have no regrets 😀

For now it's mostly gaming but I am starting work in CAD software. I want a X99 system over a z97 because I feel it would be more future proof, i want a system to last 4+ years.

They are listed on my system config "Core i7 930 @ 4GHz , ASUS P6T-SE mobo, ASUS GTX 970 STRIX, Kingston HiperX + OCZ Platinum 12GB ram , Corsair Hiperx 3k 120GB , NZXT M59 case , Titan Fenrir cooler " + Corsair TX650

I will most likely get a better case in time but since it fits my X58 I think it will handle X99 for a couple of months. As for the power supply, I think it would be overkill to get a higher wattage, even with my overclock it draws only 400 watts ( I do not plan to do any SLI or Crossfire).
