Question Should I upgrade gpu or cpu

On my PC, I currently have a Ryzen 5 1400 and a Radeon rx 550. I was thinking about upgrading my computer, but I didn't know whether to upgrade my GPU or CPU.

what kind of improvement you want to see the most? gaming? or productivity stuff?

I most probably guess that you will be playing @1080p.

1080p Maxed Out - RX 580 8GB /1060 6GB
1080p High to Ultra - RX 570 4GB/ 1060 3GB

If budget allows you to upgrade CPU go for Ryzen 1600 and above (go for zen+ series if possible).

then obviously you need better GPU. it all comes down to how much you willing to spend.
