should I upgrade i7-4790k

Hello,

I am trying to upgrade from my 970 to 1080/1080ti, but I was wondering if I needed a new CPU in the process or not. if that's the case then is it worth waiting for AMD 7nm next year and start from scratch with new mobo and cpu?

btw my system:

gtx 970
intel i7-4790k stock
ddr3 1300
seasonic 750 paltinum 80+ (upgraded it recently to accommodate for future upgrades)
250GB ssd
1TB HDD

I will also be playing at 1080p 144hz 24' monitor.

If I were you I would wait until next year to upgrade. Your current system is fine at the moment for 1080p.

Keep your 4790K, it's still a excellent CPU and easily handles higher resolutions if that's going to be your next upgrade after the GPU.

..nevermind. If you have a 4790k get the 1080ti

Gtx1080 will be fine for 1080p/144Hz. Better to have 16Gb of DDR3 1600/1866 if you don't already, buy from eBay or other.

Thanks for your responses guys, I am going to upgrade to gtx 1080 then upgrade the rest next year with AMD release.
