Should I upgrade? Is it worth it?

Solution
nope. wait 1 month. AMD's new chips will be out, and either they'll change the game (price/performance) or they'll flop. Till we know the answer I'd sit on it another 30 days.

Once Ryzen comes out, we can revisit this conversation.

No clue. Leaks imply close to parody with intel's cpus, if that's the case then price becomes a huge deal again.

As an example, lets say you can buy a 4c/8t AMD cpu at $200, and it will perform as good as a i7-7700k, well that's a $120 discount in price right there. You could take that extra $120 and pour it into better parts elsewhere in the OP's upgrade project.

Now if Ryzen isn't at or near parody with intel performance, then this is a moot point. Still I think it's worth waiting 30 days to see how this shakes out.

No. New motherboards as well. AM4.

Agree with waiting a month or so if you can. Right now AMD can't even compete with an i3 in gaming. Ryzen may change that.
