Should I upgrade? (LGA 1150 to LGA 1151?)

Hello,

I've been debating with myself and some friends on whether I should upgrade my processor (Currently LGA 1150 - I5-4590) to a I7 4790K, or go full blown towards LGA 1151 with a I7 7700K. I heard future proofing is sorta redundant, but what will give the better performance boost; what is more efficient?

Main Games I play: TF2, CS GO, Overwatch, BF1 - With my current set up, I can maintain constant 60 FPS+, but seems to dip to 50 FPS- with some more CPU oriented games.

Current Set Up:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4590
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070 -
SSD: Adata SP550NS38 480GB
HDD: Seagate FireCuda SSHD 1TB (2016)
RAM: G.SKILL Ares DDR3 1600 C10 2x8GB
MBD: Asus Z97-C
PSU - Corsair - CSM 650W

Future Upgrade in mind
Plan A: Just get I7 4790K and keep with LGA 1150
Plan B: Keep Current GPU,SSD, HDD, and PSU, and replace MBD and CPU - Jump to LGA1151

CPU: I7 7700K
MBD: Asus - STRIX Z270-E GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
RAM: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory

I'd go with plan B, IMHO

Don't know how much of hurry you're in... but if you have some time to wait an upgrade to the I7-8700K is a much better upgrade than Kaby-lake. The price difference isn't that much (At least not where I am), but the performance jump is worthwhile - since you're buying a new mobo and RAM anyway on plan B.

The Z370 boards offer a little more in terms of features than the Z270 boards.

I agree, future proofing is a term all manufacturers would rather see struct from existence.. It interferes with their profits.. But the 4590 to 4790K is barely an upgrade at all.

Just my 2 cents worth.
