Should I upgrade my CPU first?

Hi Folks,
I want to upgrade my gaming PC as newer games are starting to lose frames and cause my rig to get very loud and hot. I'm tempted to just upgrade RAM and my GPU but I'm worried my CPU might cause a bottle neck. Since I'm a pleb when it comes to hardware I'm seeking some advice. I'm looking to spend around 300$. Here are my current specs.

An i5-4670K is still a very solid CPU - so I wouldn't recommend upgrading.

Which games are causing the issue, and at what resolution?

Please post your full spec though - there's not a lot of information in what you've pasted.

Is this a 'pre-built' or custom? Either way, motherboard, RAM (model and speed) and PSU will be useful information.

A 780 is still a strong GPU, so there may be other issues at play here....
GTX 1060's and RX580's would be well within your budget - but I don't feel they offer enough of an upgrade vs a 780 to justify the cost (they would be an improvement in performance though).

It was a custom build. I run everything at 1080p. Example of some problem games are FF14, H1Z1, Darksouls 3. Here are some more specifics about the build.

Can you explain exactly what problems you're facing? "Frame drops" alone doesn't give too much information.

Are you monitoring your temps with something like HWMonitor? Or how are you determining the rig is hot?
Can you post some numbers (or a HWMonitor screenshot) showing your temps?

H1Z1 was notoriously poorly optimized..... not sure if they ever fixed that.

Your hardware still sounds more than capable for 1080p Gaming.
