Should I upgrade my CPU or a new build?

Hi guys,

I really want an affordable gaming PC. I already have 8GB HyperX FURY RAM, 120GB SSD, as well as a MSI-760GM P23FX motherboard. Should I upgrade my Sempron to an FX-4300 and install a GTX 750ti, or buy a new ASUS motherboard socket FM2+ and buy an A10 7850K (no GPU)

Many thanks,
AKNerd

Your current motherboard is poor quality and not suitable for a FX6 or FX8. FX4300 would work, but you have no more future upgrades.

If you are going to change motherboards, it is time to go intel of some sort.
FM2+ and an apu sounds attractive, but once you use a discrete graphics card, you have discarded the main attraction, namely good integrated graphics. You are then left with a relatively weak cpu and no good upgrade options.

For the same $125 as a A10-7850K, you can buy a i3-4170 which will be a stronger gamer assuming you will use a discrete graphics card like a GTX750ti or better.

If your budget can not manage that, then look at the $70 G3258.
The nice thing about any intel build is that you have an upgrade path to i3, i5, or even i7 on the same motherboard.
Here is what a strong dual core can do in games:

And... FWIW, do not worry too much about sata 2 for a ssd, In random performance, the sata speed does not matter, and small random I/o is what the os does 90% of the time.
In sequential, sata 2 is still 2x faster than a hard drive.
Love the ssd for windows.
