Should I upgrade my CPU or a new GPU?

My dad is willing to spend $500 on Best Buy for Christmas this year to upgrade my computer, and I was wondering whether it would be better to get a CPU upgrade or a GPU upgrade.
Current Specs: AMD FX-4350 | AMD R9 380 | 8 GB DDR3

I would either get an i7-7700k/i5-7600k with 16 GB of DDR4 or a GTX 1070/1080 depending if my dad is willing to go a bit over budget ($50 or so--I also have a Newegg Gift card for $175 for a motherboard if I get a CPU and RAM--doesn't towards the $500). I play on a 1080p monitor at 60Hz but in the future I would like to play at 1440p/60Hz for games like Battlefield 1, Fallout 4, GTA V and 1080p/144Hz for games like CSGO and Overwatch. I'd also like to play games like PUBG and DayZ etc. I plan on getting both upgrades but I don't know which one to get first for the best performance. Thanks :)

I already have a cooler and I forgot to mention that $475 needs to be spent at Best Buy to get the financing, but Best Buy only has one mobo option in my chipset so the mobo isn't included in the price

The R9 380 is still a great card. A little better then the 960. The 4350 is equal to the i5 2400s, i5 750 or i3 3240 Not the greatest. The 7700K will be bottlenecked by the r9 380 but not by much. In games like PUBG a better CPU will help the most
