I have an AMD FX-6300 for the cpu and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 for the graphics card. Which one should i upgrade first to get better fps while playing video games?
Depends on what resolution you're playing at. The 960 is still pretty capable at 1080p and now is a pretty good time for a CPU upgrade, I might lean towards upgrading to something like this if you have the money. It will give you a good platform for future upgrades and some extra performance now.
You'll get support for a lot of new features with AM4 and probably won't have to upgrade your mobo and RAM again for a long time, if better zen processors come out you can still use them.

If you're playing at medium, probably not. If you're doing higher settings then you might start running into some issues in brand new titles, but the GPU itself really isn't powerful to play them at those settings anyways.
