With the Holidays coming up I have been slowly upgrading my PC.. I just bought a GTX 780 ti (pretty sweet).. now my Question is should I upgrade my PCU? It is an AMD FX 6200.. I was thinking about upgrading too the FX 8350, but I feel like I probably wouldn't see much of a difference or would I? Or I was thinking about just saving up and Getting a intel i7 but then I would need a new MB.. I'm not super computer knowledgeable so any information will help.. Oh and do you think it is possible that my CPU is bottle necking my GPU? thx

CPU- AMD FX 6200 3.8 6 cores
GPU- GTX 780 TI
Memmory- 16GB DDR 3 G.skill Ripjaw
Mother board- Asus Crosshair V Formula

With the amount of money you invested on your MoBo, go ahead and get yourself an AMD 83XX and overclock in nicely 😉 Thought you will see a performance difference not just in multi-threaded apps but so ass single-threaded apps. The numbers are that 13% higher performance in single-threaded applications and 42% faster in multi-threaded tasks compared to the 6200.

Also, if you would like you can sell your MoBo and CPU and get an Intel setup (the i7 won't really benefit a lot in gaming, the 83XX is neck to neck to the i5 IMO)

It depends. Andrei_316 is right in a sense, seems like a waste to get rid of your system when you made a heavy investment in the crosshair v formula motherboard. On the other hand, even the fx83xx gets easily outperformed by intel i5's not to mention i7's. A lot of it depends on what you want to do with it. If you're mostly gaming and browsing the internet the current setup you have would be ok. The fx wouldn't provide a ton of benefit. If you're doing video editing/graphic design, cad etc where multi cores truly shine then an fx would be a bonus. Or go with intel.

The good news is you already have a decent motherboard and the rest of the setup. The bad news, even if you invest in an fx which is currently not competing at the top to begin with you have no place to go in the future. Competing with intel's middle of the road is the best you can hope to achieve even with an amd upgrade.

Right now it looks like the fx is around $160. For around double that ($350 or less) you could keep your ram, your gpu and swap out for the i5 4690k and a z97 motherboard and get not only better performance than the fx but an option to move to an i7 later on and be set up for broadwell which isn't even here yet. You have more breathing room for upgrade potential. It would be up to you and your budget.

Alright thx a lot guys ! I will probably just get the fx 8xxx .. Unless I can find a decent MB and Intel for a good price.. Still kinda torn if it is worth the money to go Intel for not a major upgrade I'll look around some more and see what I can find thx
