I recently finished speaking with a ms technician about my word doc (which is all fixed). They mentioned I should upgrade my Microsoft Office 2007 as the warranty of it has gone so if I have further, bigger problems I will be charged. Where as if I upgrade to latest versions its all free.

I have windows 8.1 (not looking to upgrade to 10). What MS Office shall I purchase? I am a uni student if that helps? I dont want any monthly payments (as they mentioned). I just want to buy it upfront and have it forever. Possibly for 2 computers (mine and my brothers). Also is it vital that I upgrade?

Thanks

There is no annual or monthly subscription fee for Office 2013.
There is for Office 365.

Stay with your current Office 2007 until you feel a real need to change.
I'm still using Office 2007 and haven't had any issues or reason to upgrade. I can't think of a reason why I would need Microsoft's software support considering the wealth and breadth of information that's available online.

LOL! you obviously are not a student of business.... NOTHING is free, except a kick in the teeth. MS is telling you that support is "free" with current versions because it's baked into the yearly subscription that you have to pay. it's (for example) $18 for software plus $2 for support, which is why it only costs $20 per month. or whatever the numbers are.

your iPhone also isn't free - the cost is baked into a 2 or 3 year contract for the service.

use Office 2007 and google search to solve issues.
or use LibreOffice and google search to solve issues.

Ye I have had no major issues so far, thank god. Hopefully I wont get any in the future. And I guess as the saying goes, "if its not broken, dont fix it"! :)

"you obviously are not a student of business". Haha youre right. I am studying 3d modelling and games and it doesnt really require word doc, except for small essays. And when you talk about the monthyl subscription, its for ms office 2014 on-wards they told me. 2013 is bought upfront with no sub fees.
