Should I upgrade my current system, or build a whole new rig?

my current specs:
i3 6100
GTX 750 ti
8gb ddr4 2133 RAM (1x8)
ASUS h110m-a motherboard
1tb WD blue HDD
500W EVGA PSU

I want to play Battlefield 1 and the upcoming battlefield V at 1080p@60, as well as other AAA games such as just cause 3+4.
Currently i can play battlefield 4 very smooth at 70-90fps on medium settings. battlefield 1 is heavily cpu bottlenecked, running from 25-50fps on LOW.

So my question is whether I should upgrade my current system or if it would make more sense to just make a new rig.

if upgrading, i was thinking i5 7500 and gtx 1060 6gb
for a new rig i would go with i5 8400 and 1060 6gb. (haven't really looked into Ryzen solutions)

16 gb Ram is a must (dual channel) as well as an ssd. I dont plan on overclocking.

since battlefield is heavily reliant on cpu, i dont know if i5 7500 will suffice.

any suggestions are much appreciated,

WOW....You really cheeped out on that machine... I would go with a new machine, you would be better off in the long run.

Buy a GPU first and see how it goes, since your GPU is a bit old and slow.
If the GPU doesn't fix your problem, then start with the rest of the system.
a 1060 will get you decent 1080p gaming.

You can reuse your cpu cabinet and PSU. I see your PSU is 80 plus rated so yeah its not garbage.
Honestly you should buy new build. You can sell your existing system and it will save you good money.

Ryzen and Intel themselves put your build in an interesting position, the i5 7400 or 7500 should suffice, but its friggin expensive compared with what you get by moving to either LGA 1151 v3 or socket AM4. Ironically you could get a Ryzen 5 2400G and a motherboard for not much more than just the i5 7500 itself. But honestly, I would just upgrade one component at a time, start with your gpu, add another 8gb stick of ram, maybe get an SSD for the OS, and finally if those dont help then either upgrade your cpu, or jump to a different platform, on the plus you can reuse everything else except for your mobo and cpu so you're not wasting any money. As a nit pick i would also replace that power supply with something a bit less anemic. I've included a list for most of a full build, but honestly you could just pick and choose parts as needed.
