Should I upgrade my FX 8350?

Hey guys,

My friend convinced me to get a 8350 for my first custom pc build and i'm not really happy with the performance i'm thinking of upgrading my CPU, I'm looking to play games at 1080p 144fps.
I just need recommendations to what cpu and motherboard I should upgrade to.

Current Specs:
Fx 8350 overclocked to 4.5 ghz
GTX 1060 6gb
16GB of DDR3 RAM
GA-990FXA-UD3 R5

get an i5 7600 with Gigabyte - GA-B250M-DS3H (if you don't want overclocking)

you can even step down to an i3 7100 if you're on an extremely tight budget

sorry to hear about your friend recommendation of decade old cpu as "item to get"

will you want to upgrade also your ram, ?
will you want to stay with AMD or is Intel under consideration ?
what is your budget your thinking on ?

now what makes much more sense for that 500$ value it to get a new Gen cpu. sell the Amd, mobo and ram you have one eBay,. and get either Amd or Intel

and in my humble opinion you better off selling your amd/mobo.ram and recoup some of the cost, (ram will sell well enough) against the new upgrade cost....personally I thin the intel is a better choice and comes with its own heatrsink.
of course if you prefer to overclock this intel would be more what you need as my suggestiuon is not a "overclocking capable seytup

I'm willing to spend at the most 600 dollars. Sorry for the late reply been busy lately.

2 things stand out for 144fps.

1. The 1060 is not really strong enough unless your happy to really drop settings. It's a great card for 1080p 60Hz/60fps and fps up to 100.

2. Modern games and high fps benefit from the strongest CPU core performance possible, this is why Intel with its strongest IPC and overclocked do so well. However an OC'd i5 is fine for the majority of games out and high fps but a few modern games are showing material benefits from the extra threads from an i7 and it seems to be the way games are going.

Bottom line if I was building a system for 1080p 144Hz I'd want a 7700k (it is king of high fps gaming) and a gpu no lower than a 1070. Unfortunately that means your near enough building a whole new system.

I just ordered an intel i7 7700k with a compatible motherboard with also ddr4 ram. I'm also okay with 60/1080p gaming since I'm thinking about upgrading my graphics card down the line thank you all for the information next time i'm doing research instead of asking my friend.
