Go for a 770 4gig oc edition 390$ on amazon, and will anhilate your gpu card, while cheaper than the 780, and the pointless titan. the 290 falls into preference.

Forget the 780, it's not worth the extra cost for small increment, as you would compare the small increment towards the titan gtx and the 780.
Common sense plays a important role too.

Sell your card on ebay, its safer and the safety features are good for new comers selling online.

Probably not the 780's price just dropped due to the release of the 290's, and another price drop will probably be quite far away.

The R9-280X, R9-290 and R9-290X are currently price-inflated because of the litecoin miners. If you wait a few months for that to die down, they should return to their MSRP prices of $300, $400 and $550 respecitvely. You'll be fine with your 5970 for quite awhile. That is one beast of a card and it should still be able to play most games at high settings. Only you know if the card is playing games the way you want it to. Fortunately, you do have time to wait.

Sorry but no, the 5000 series are already getting old and an R9 280x,290x,780 are a LOT faster than his 5970.

I'm thinking about selling my 5970, would people be interested even though it's years old? I know this card is wanted among litcoin miners, what would be the best way to go about selling it online? I've never sold anything on the web and don't feel like getting scammed. I've heard about paypal with ebay but don't really know how it works.

There ain't that much interest in second hand graphics cards but that one is still fine and young enough to sell so it might attract some buyers. Ebay is probably the best known and you've more chance for buyers on it.

Just make sure you'll read the instructions of safe selling on Ebay and you're good to go!

I don't know what you're talking about and it's obvious that you really don't know what you're talking about either. The Radeon HD 5970 is similar in performance to the Radeon HD 7950. Keep your card JustJoshing, it's all you need at the moment.

I know this is not very scientific, but I couldn't find a benchmark with the 5970 and the 280x at the same time. It's quite possible that the 280x will beat the 5970 in some scenarios but it's very close.

You're 100% correct (except that the 7970 and the 280X are the same card). This fruiten2 guy is just running around trying to get best answers because he knows how to talk like a real expert even though he isn't.

Btw i get 20-40 fps in bf4 on medium on outside maps, don't know if my card is broken or what. Plus I downloaded new drivers and it decreased my performance, y'all have to take in consideration driver support for a 5 year old card. Older games run great, but these new games coming out are going to run like crapola, I'm not sure if that's from drivers or what.

Passmark is notorious for being inaccurate so I wouldn't put much stock in what they say. If you're getting bad frame rates, we'll need to see the rest of your system specs. The problem probably lies elsewhere, unless your card is dying. What's your CPU, what's your motherboard, how much RAM do you have, does your case vent the heat of that monster correctly? We need to know things like that. Remember that Battlefield 4 requires a minimum of 8GB of RAM to run correctly.

i7 920 OC to 3.4Ghz
16gb ram
Intel X58 MicroATX Mobo (I think)

Card runs at 60c to 85c which is common for my card I believe. I actually upgraded from 6gb of ram thinking that was a a part of it, it did help a bit though.

The 5970 is has 2 gpu's on it which means you get the headaches associated with crossfire - I suggest you get the gtx 780 it should give you around 60 fps on ultra when with a 3570k or better. The 2500k should also be enough.

You might get some frame dips depending on the map but you should be satisfied. You might get less fps in the Campaign mode.

When I upgraded from the gtx 670 to 780 the difference was night and day - according to the chart the gtx 670 is faster than the 5970.

Then a upgraded from the 780 to the 780 ti because the 780 wasn't enough for my 1440p monitor however at 1080p is was awesome unless you plan on using super sampling.

Hmmm, an old i7-920. I think I might know what the problem is.

Battlefield 4 is a Radeon-optimised game. It supports crossfire and crossfire doesn't have those "headaches" anymore. I know that I sure have no problems with it and haven't had any in about 5 years of using it. Also, he doesn't have a 2500K, he has a 920 which is an old Nehalem-based CPU.

Actually, it's more on par with the HD 7870XT (HD 7930) and HD 7950 according to Tom's Hardware's Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart

Ok, I think I found the problem. It's your CPU. To properly play Battlefield 4, you need to turn off the "core parking" feature of Windows 7. I found a link describing the problem and you'll see that i7 CPUs of your generation are having this problem. In fact, even newer i7 CPUs like the 2600K were doing this as well. Here's the link:

I have a feeling that all your headaches are over. If you had changed vidcards, you probably would have had exactly the same problem. I'm glad that you won't have to go to that expense for nothing. 😀

2 open a paypal account, same way you did with your ebay account. once done, head back towards your ebay account and go to your financial details> link your paypal to your ebay account.

3 eventually you'll need to add your bank details, some buyers will ask how you will except payment. (if they say they'll pay with check, decline it, if they money order it to your pank, try to contact your bank on any new trasnfers)

But overall papal is much easier, as most buyers and sellers usually have funds stored in their paypal account.
Paypals similar to bitcoins, it stores data as money and transfers it to your wallet, while that's a entirely new topic

I already unparked my CPU's, it greatly increased the stability but no magic fps gain. Thanks though.

Can it really be my CPU? I know my CPU is old but i thought it's was still good to go. I honestly think my card is just getting old.

Well, that could be true. The card may be dying of old age. Try it on other games and see what it does. Depending on your budget, if you were to get a card right now the GTX 770 would be the best choice because the Radeon cards are all inflated in price because of LiteCoin miners. If you already unparked your cores, then I think it's probably the card because the i7-920 should still be a decent gaming CPU.

I agree BF4 is a Radeon optimized game and crossfire improved over the years however don't you think a powerful single gpu solution will perform better than two medium powered gpu's that have the same power?

The 280x and the 290 have an edge on their competition the gtx 770 and 780 however the game plays best on the 780 ti.

Before the Mining started AMD appeared to be the best value however with the price increases things have changed...

Bioshock also was optimized for AMD however played better on Nvidia if you purchased one of their flagships.

Nobody knows if Mantle will bring improvements until it come out.

I've played bf4, bioshock infinite & Crysis 3 on a 280x and the experience didn't compare to my gtx 780 ti @ 1440p.
I enjoyed playing these games more on my gtx 780. I'm not sure about the 290 or 290x because the only people I know that have the
cards use them for mining.

The the Crysis, bioshock and battlefield were in the past either optimized or played better than on Nvidia Cards. Here is an Tomshardware article where a blind test is done and the 690 destroys the 7990 in game play experience.

Some of these games "optimized for Amd however most the people still chose Nvidia" Why is that Avro arrow?
