Should I upgrade my GPU or buy a PS4?

Ok, so I built a media center PC (Which I use for media, video editing, internet, and some PC games). I carried over my EVGA 750 ti GPU from outdated rig. I notice the GTX 970 GPU is almost the same price as the PS4. I notice you can not get Madden for the PC since 2007 (Sell outs), and I can't see buying PS4 just for Madden. Also, I've burned thru three PS3's in 4 years (horrible quality control or something).

1) Is nearly every game currently available for PS4/Xbox also available for the PC?
2) Which is the better choice? gtx 970 GPU or PS4/xBox.

I will play on a 40" Samsung LED TV (1080p)

I love games like Resident Evil, Saint's Row. Mostly games with an objective, freedom to wander about, save up to buy cool cars/weapons/stuff. Madden is really the only sports game I like, and it is getting really old.

BTW, I would really hate to buy another sony product after how many of these PS's have broken down on me. I've never owned an xBox, so I don't know how reliable they are. But you would think since Microsoft owns both xBox and Windows 10, that they would work together. That ticks me off too. (That I would need to buy another Microsoft product to play one of their own games.) That's another reason why I'm thinking gtx 970.

- Silverstone Tek GD05B Case
- Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-GAMING LGA1150 mATX
- i5-4690k
- Raijintek Pallas Black CPU Cooler
- EVGA 750ti superclocked
- HyperX Savage 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1866
- XFX TS Series 550W PSU
- Samsung 850 EVO Series 250GB SSD
- Windows 10

This maybe overkill for a video editing rig, but I was trying to keep gaming in mind on this new rig as well. I have all the peripherals, so it would be a matter of whats best, gtx 970 or PS4/xBox? 50 or so bucks one way or the other makes no difference to me. 400$ does.

GTX 970 for sure.

Your CPU is fine for gaming.

In all honesty, I'd even wait a few months til the price goes down, depending upon how much you care about 1080 ultra 60fps, and get the GTX 980.

The GTX 750ti to will play all (even witchr 3) but the most poorly optimized games (i.e. AC Unity and Syndicate).

That's just my opinion though.

Graphics wise yes. However because of graphics a console is not 'waaaaaay' better. This is very poor mentality. How about the quality and features of the OS? How is the controller? Which exclusives do you like? Is PS4 better if you like Forza Motorsport 6?

I could have trouble fitting a gtx 980 in this Silverstone Tek case, but someone on here with nearly the same case suggested a particular gtx 970 that will fit just right. I've considered changing cases to allow myself more room, but that would cost more money, and would not fit in my cabinet.

Sense your build is already pretty good I would say definitely go for a Gtx 970 you just get a lot more with a pc than with a console.
Most games are available on all 3 (ps4,xbone,pc) except exclusives which are limited to only one but that goes for all 3.
The whole ps4/xbox one thing is personal preference I wouldn't say one is more superior than the other usually just go with what ever your friends have.

The GPU will last longer I suppose? At least I would hope so. In the past I've always bought new consoles. In the process I neglected my PC, and ended up with a dog of a computer. Seems like one device would be best to maintain, so maybe I'll go all out on this rig.

I can't buy MSI. I had bad luck with the last MSI GPU I bought, and someone I know on here had a bad experience with one as well. I'd be interested to know how you did the compatibility check on that site, so that I can see if a better brand of 980 is compatible.

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out, and that's very interesting. Will those drop in price soon?

i've never had trouble with MSI. oh well. you can always choose a different brand for 980's

Mine was so loud after 1 year that I had to remove it. The other guy sent his back 2 weeks after he bought it. I read the reviews sometimes and it always seems to be the fan. Maybe we were the unlucky souls, but I won't spend $350 or more to find out.

Haha yeah. The whole "ps4 vs GPU" thing seems a little like apples and oranges to me, hence the silly link.

They both do different things, and I think it's worth it to own both, but if you want my opinion, is get a GPU, because you already have everything else you need for a solid gaming PC. It'd be a waste to not get a GPU IMHO.

And if you are getting a GPU, the 970 is a really good deal, with really good performance, and low power draw.

I see. I think the 970 is a really good deal too. I can't see paying $500+ for a 980.

I would get an XBOXONE

Here's why, You had bad experience with a PS 4, so i understand why you do not want it. So that leaves PC or XBONE.

If you get an XBONE you can use it to play all the big games that are on all platforms like GTA and Batman or Dragon Age or Witcher, obviously these games will not be all that good on your PC because you have 750ti.

But 750TI is perfect for those indie games you get on Steam, it can run anything that's not an AAA title.

So with this solution you can play AAA games plus XBOX exclusives on your XBOX without any glitches that you would get on PC and at the same time still play less demanding games on your existing PC.

PS4 is a waste if you have a good PC (you do). Just get a 970 or even an r9 270x will be better than a PS4 graphics wise.
Only console Imo even worth considering is a Wii U just for exclusives.

Why buy a ps4 or xbone when i can play those games on my PC with better settings and higher fps
