Hey, I was wondering if I should I upgrade my hard drive. I currently have a TOSHIBA DT01ACA100. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16822149382. The reviews aren't very good, and I have noticed a few lag spikes in games like GTA V when I own a GTX 1060, so that shouldn't be happening. Also, what does the hard drive affect in games? Because again while playing GTA V, I notice objects phasing into existence way too close to my player. Thanks in advance.

i bought last week that hard disk, it is nice to have games but not ideal for os

my gta and my os are in a a ssd

the load times and the lag also can be blamed on the cpu, ram and gpu, if the lag corresponds to the ram limit being reached or the cpu being at 100 per cent, you need other parts, not the hard disk

install a monitor like rivatuner or msi afterburner, check those values before blaming a normal hard disk that almost gives 200 megabytes per second reading

anyway, get a ssd, 240 gbs and put gta and your windows in it, other games in the toshiba and remember that hard disks are meant this days to store files, not to run heavy games and your os while giving you the best possible access times, that is a task for a ssd

i use a seagate barracuda 1tb hdd for my storage and os .. play games like watch dogs 2 doom2016 mafia III amongst others and have no stuttering or lag problems, i use a g4560 and an rx480.. this is why i asked what his cpu is . i don't see the relevance of an ssd other than for quicker loading of os file transfers and such.. but the benefit of gaming is zero imo.

i'll test it out in the next few days and report back with a more detailed answer. would be wrong of me to disagree with you without having tested with my regular hdd without knowing the cpu of the op it will still be hard to diagnose his problem 100%. i have to try battlefield 1 first. then gta v 😛

it will probably be a disaster . heard it is really cpu intensive ! i can hear my g4560 crying already and i haven't even installed 😛

Sorry! I forgot to mention it above. It's an FX-6300, and I already know it's a bottleneck. I have slightly reduced framerates and planning to fix the problem, but is this the cause of the lag spikes as well?

Update: I was flying in a hydra today no problems, until I nose-dived into the city. Massive stuttering until I flew up again. Guessing this was the CPU.
