Hello guys, considering all the amazing games that are coming out (namely mortal kombat x, gta 5 and batman arkham knight), I have been wondering if I should upgrade my hardware.I have actually bought Mortal Kombat X and my pc performance have not been where I wanted. It is running all over the place, between 30-50 fps in low settings and 1080p. I thought my gpu would be able to run it smoother, is there anything that could be preventing me from harnessing my gpu full power (drivers are up to date)?

My rig consists in a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500 (non-k) CPU @ 3.30GHz, AMD Radeon HD 7970 ghz edition, a Gigabyte Z68X-UD4-B3 motherboard and 8 gigs of RAM. I've been thinking that my i5-2500 is the bottlenecking my system, do you guys think so as well? Should I invest in a new processor and, if so, any recommendations? In case it is not the bottleneck, should I try overclocking my gpu/trying crossfire/upgrade it?

Many thanks in advance

Solution
Mortal Kombat X has a had a lot of problems and a really rocky launch, I'd say the performance problems come more down to the game than your hardware, I'd just wait for patches on that title and driver updates from AMD.

A new CPU wouldn't likely benefit you too much, even on really CPU heavy titles like GTA V your GPU is more likely to be your limiting factor on maintaining smooth framerates. You could look at a new graphics card, though most single GPUs that are a big enough jump over a 7970 to really be worth it are quite expensive. Crossfire is a more economical solution, if your PSU can handle it, just be aware that AMD has not been particularly prompt about releasing Crossfire profiles lately in some games, and without them...

Your CPU is completely adequate for gaming (and should be for a few more years, unless games start massively benefiting from more than 4 cores, and being optimized for that)! The GPU, the 7970, is pretty powerful as well. MKX's recommended GPU is 7950, so you should be good.
A lot of people are saying it's buggy and not well optimized, so that's probably it. http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=20347&game=Mortal%20Kombat%20X

As for my stance on GPU OC: if you can and if your GPU cooler allows it, do it. It's free performance anyways.

Thanks a lot Supernova1138 and someone755, I will leave my cpu as it is and look into crossfire or a straight upgrade, I will wait for updates on mk x and new drivers to see if it is really necessary
