Should I upgrade my i5-2500?

Hey there,
When I built my computer several years ago, it came with 8GB RAM, the Intel i5-2500 CPU (3.3GHz) and a GeForce GTX 560.

About halfway through 2015, I upgraded my GPU to a GeForce GTX 970 but I still have the i5-2500.

Is it about time to upgrade to something better? (Like the Intel i7-4790K?) Or is my current one still viable?

Note that the PC is a gaming PC.

Thanks!

Solution
No, it isn't necessary. The 2500 is already very good.

Unless you're going to use the PC for let's say, rendering or content creation. In that way the 4790K would be viable.
