Should I upgrade my I5 2500k

OK guys my specs are:
-I5 2500k oc'd 4.2 ghz
-MSI Z77 g45 gamingboard
- xfx amd hd 6850
- ram 8 gb 1600 mhz

I know my gpu is a bit old and i would definitely replace it but I was thinking of upgrading my cpu as well keep in mind that am keeping my motherboard so I was thinking a 3gen I7 but is it really worth it and if so which one should i get or should I only upgrade my gpu and maybe my ram

Some games can benefit from the extra threads, but most won't. I'd say wait til you get your new GPU and see if you are getting any bottlenecks in the games you play.

Before investing more money on a discontinued platform, you may want to wait and see what Ryzen 1300-1600 will look like. Even if you stick to your plans of getting an i7, Ryzen's launch should knock several dollars off of your purchase price as old Intel chips will become far less desirable.
