Hi everybody.

It came up the oportunity to make an upgrade to my pc.
These are my specs:

Nvidia GTX 1080 Founders Edition
I7 6700
Mobo Msi Z170-A Gaming M3 1151
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8) 3200MHZ DDR4
Thermaltake 700W 80 Bronce

I think i should change my motherboard and my cpu.
Is it worth the upgrade to Intel 9th generation? Or i should go for 8th?
The money is definitely an issue. I can afford both, but i wanted to make sure it was justified.

Cheers!

Depends what you do but I wouldn’t upgrade CPU from a good one until Zen 2 is out and we see how panicky intel gets. Due for summer this year so not too long. Rumours are a 5Ghz model and 16 core variants on the consumer line.

Kinda hard to reccomend intel with all the gens and chipsets they’re spewing out. Since 2017 we’ve had what 4 top of the line chips launched not including HEDT where we’ve had another 3.

Yes, i use it for gaming.
I have a 1080... If i upgrade to 2080 or something like that, wouldn't i have even more bottleneck than now?

Well, this is definitly the kind of advice i was looking for. I'll keep it in mind.
Regarding the other parts of my pc, do you think i should invest in anything besides the cpu?

That rig you have is more than capable for gaming at 1440, so unless you're looking to go to 4k, or there are games you're having an issue with I wouldn't bother for the moment. Sit tight as recommended above and see what develops with Zen 2.

I will suggest you to wait for sometimes and let the new zen series come. Also your PC is stronger enough to handle all modern titles. I won't recommend you to upgrade it at this time
