This is more of a persuasion for me to get a better PC.
I want to go from my current Bloomfield (Socket 1366) i7 930 Overclocked to 3.5GHz
And an old X58A-UD3R motherboard

To a Haswell build.
I want to go haswell over Sandy/Ivy because it's not much more for a lot better, and Skylake would require me to buy new RAM and I don't find DDR4 a giant advantage for a few more FPS.

So:
Should I bother upgrading to Haswell?
If so, what Motherboard and CPU should I get? I was thinking i5 4690K but I dunno...

If I were to hit Skylake I would probably get 8GB and get another 8G stick afterwards. But you think Haswell is useless to upgrade to?

I think anything you upgrade to should be new enough to have some upgrade paths for the future. That is just my opinion of course. The cost difference to jump to Skylake over Haswell shouldnt be that much of a difference money wise. And id get 16gb off the bat, BF 1 apparently stutters on 8gb, from what ive read with issues people are having. Im sure that wont be the only game coming out in the near future that will need more RAM.

Fair enough, I don't really want BF1 I play Fallout 4, CS:GO, etc. But I have 12GB currently and everything works without a hitch RAM wise, never hopped above 70%

Fair enough, thanks mate. If I were going Skylake, I would be getting the i5-6600k. Any Z170 motherboard ATX and Cheapest DDR4 16GB I can get. My current cooler is very much capable as these old CPU's produce a lot more heat as their half the size, slashed TDP grandkids.
