So my last build is from 2014 with i7 4790, 32 gb ddr3 ram and a GTX 1060 on a z97 motherboard.

I wanted to upgrade my monitor to a 144hz 2k display but realized that I need a stronger graphic card, so I wanted to get a rtx 2080.

Aaaaand that will bottleneck my CPU so here I am upgrading my whole pc

I just bought a 32" MSI 2k 144hz monitor and while I have to dial down a setting or 2 now depending on the game, my 1060 6GB still has to problem with pushing decent FPS's. Of course everyone's idea of "decent" differs lol..

i have the exact same setup, but i got a 1070 running with it

To my mind there is no reason to upgrade your system

BUT

If you can get a rtx 2080, definitely go for it

So what if it is bottlenecked? It will still churn out gorgeous visuals

You can always upgrade your rig later

to my mind "bottlenecking" is being focused on too much, it's not that big a deal, unless you start mixing really low end with high end components, which is not the case in your build
