Hi,

Should I upgrade my current PC or Build a whole new one? If I did build a new PC my budget would be around £5000 but people say anything above £3000 is a waist of money. So best PC for the bank I am looking for.
Or should I just wait for better specs to come out first in late 2021 or early 2022?

My current Current PC specs:

1x Intel i9 7900x 3.3GHz Skylake CPU
1x Asus Intel Prime X299-A 128GB DDR4 2066 Motherboard
1x 32GB (2x16GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 RAM
1x EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 11GB TI Black Edition iCX GDDR5X Graphics Card
1x Crucial MX500 1TB SSD
1x Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD
1x Corsair TX-M 650W Hybrid PSU
1x Corsair H115i Pro RGB Water Cooler
1x Corsair Crystal 460X RGB PC Case
1x Windows 10 Pro COA Licence
1x Arctic F12 120MM Case Fan
1x 2.5 - 3.5 SSD HDD Mounting Bracket

Yeah I agree with the people who say that anything over £3000 is a waste of money because once you go up from that price range, you start getting rapidly diminishing returns on your investment. Your system already is pretty powerful. The only thing I would suggest upgrading is maybe the GPU and then PSU to accommodate it. I don't know if upgrading the CPU would show any improvement unless you bought something like a 5950X.

If you're playing 1440p or 4K I'd suggest only gpu and psu for now. Cpu mobo can be done later when there's more significant gains to be had. I'm assuming. You missed the Ti in the 1080. A nice upgrade for you would be the 3080. Especially for 1440p. If you're trying to play 4K, I'd say wait for 3080 Ti or a 20GB 3080. I would suggest to hold on the CPU upgrade till DDR5 becomes a thing. At 1080p.... Dont upgrade anything lol.

In what way is your current rig not doing the job?
Is this for gaming or batch apps?

If gaming, at what resolution?

Gaming at 2k with aiming at 144 FPS as my monitor is 144hz. But would also like ray tracing maybe. But not sure if I should hold of an upgrade or just wait a couple more years to build a whole new rig ?

so the only thing I’m missing is really the RTX features as I only have a 1080 ti

I agree with the others then. A new gpu and psu would be a good upgrade with no need to change the rest. I’m currently running a RTX3080 on a 1440p 144Hz monitor with a Ryzen 3700x and it’s a great combination.
