So I've been thinking of upgrading my gaming PC. Not sure if and what I should make a priority in upgrading. Here is my setup: Asrock z77 extreme 4 mono, i5-3750k (I never tried over clocking it...scares me lol), 16gb G skill rip jaws X memory and a Gtx 970. I have a few SSD drives too

It really depends which type of games you play. If you are wanting to play upcoming games i advise to upgrade your GPU to a rx480 of your choice or a $250 gtx 1060 variation. Your other components look fine to me. If you are willing to buy another motherboard as well, it would not be to bad either. The reason for this is because the motherboard you currently have is designed to overclock, therefore you payed a little to much already, try not to make the same mistake next time. An easy way of figuring out if the motherboard is meant to be overclocked is if there is a Z infront of it. But this really depends on which company it is made from. I hope i helped!
This is a link to all the variations of the 1060:

Learn to overclock it...it'll add another year of competitive 3570k. I wouldn't upgrade your cpu, but you could upgrade the gpu if you want 1440p gaming. Also, learning to overclock is actually pretty easy and tons of guides out there. Please investigate overclocking.

That GPU is very reliable but it is over the $300 tag, but i suspect it to go down soon.
